The new Motel One - from office to hotel

Location
In the search for a suitable location for Motel One's entry into the Zurich market, attention quickly turned to the perimeter block structure in Brandschenkestrasse. The very good location in the middle of the city and the historical charm of the building were seen as plus points by the real estate experts at Wincasa in view of the conversion to a hotel.

Implementation
The new Motel One is being built in the historic building of the former Selnau Post Office on Brandschenkestrasse over a two-year construction period. After the Swiss Post (PTT) left the building, the property has since been used by a bank. After the bank gave up the inner-city office complex, the real estate service provider Wincasa AG was commissioned to implement a future strategy for the traditional location.

Monument preservation
The former post office building has a special historical value for Zurich as a business metropolis - after all, the introduction of telephony in Switzerland began here. This significance was recognized as early as 1952 with the installation of the bronze figure “The Floating Woman” by Luigi Zannini (1896-1968) on the corner of Brandschenkestrasse and Toedistrasse. The entire street façade with its elaborate architectural decoration has been a listed building since the planning application for the conversion to a hotel was submitted.

Design Motel One
Like every Motel One, the hotel in Zurich is dedicated to a specific theme that runs through the entire hotel. The interior designers were inspired by Zurich as a city of banks, chocolate and shipping. The aim is to create a unique atmosphere.
